The Talent Behind Our Talent

At Immersive, we’re nothing without our people. We have some of the most talented people in the industry on our team. Today, we're diving behind the scenes to meet the team responsible for recruiting that talent: our Talent Acquisition Partners. We spoke with James Riley, Helen Broomhead, and Tim Weis, the individuals who’ve played a pivotal role in shaping Immersive’s workforce.

Joining Immersive

Hi Talent Team! We know you’re used to doing the interviewing so thank you for taking the time to be the interviewees today!

Helen, you’ve been with Immersive the longest, nearly seven years. Can you tell us about your journey?

Helen: "Absolutely! I joined when Immersive was just starting, a small group of us operating out of a shipping container. Now we're a company of hundreds of people with an international presence - how far we've come! Back then, I was returning from maternity leave and looking for a part-time recruiting role. With my previous experience in cyber, I was excited for a fresh start at a fast-paced startup with an element of familiarity. The flexibility was also crucial as a new mom. But what truly sold me was the potential. I saw the opportunity to be a part of building something really special."

James, what drew you to Immersive?

James: "I first heard about Immersive at a cybersecurity event in London in 2018. The concept of gamified learning immediately appealed to me and stuck with me over the years. When the opportunity to interview came up, I researched the company, and really resonated with the energy and team spirit. It felt like a place where people were genuinely passionate about their work."

Tim, what were you looking for in your next role, and how did Immersive fit that?

Tim: "I was looking for a company with a unique product in the cybersecurity space and an environment where I could contribute to growth. Immersive ticked both boxes. The innovative platform and the tight-knit team made it an easy decision."

Finding Top Talent

James, can you walk us through your typical day and how you identify the right candidates?

James: "My role focuses on recruiting for Product and Go-To-Market teams in the UK, EMEA, and MENA. My day involves seeking out outstanding people who would be a great fit at Immersive but just don't know it yet and then sharing all the reasons they should join our growing team. We’re looking for more than just skills; we’re looking for people who align with our culture."

Tim, how do you balance external candidate interaction with internal team alignment?

Tim: "That’s a great question. While candidate interaction is crucial, we spend just as much time, if not more, with internal teams. We align on business needs, stay informed about the competitive landscape, and analyze data to improve our processes. It’s about understanding the business from the inside out."

Helen, with your focus on customer success, marketing, and operations, how do you handle the variety of roles?

Helen: "Every day is different, which I love! I conduct screening calls, source talent, review CVs, and communicate with hiring managers. I also prioritize providing interview feedback to candidates. It’s about ensuring a smooth and transparent process for everyone."

Up to the Challenge

Talent acquisition can have its challenges. How does your team navigate differing opinions?

Tim: "We embody the ‘debate and commit’ value. Strong relationships with stakeholders are key. We assume positive intent and focus on reaching a clear, agreed-upon goal. Supportive teamwork makes these discussions easier."

Helen: "As a deep thinker, I take time to consider the best approach. I also love sharing ideas and opinions to get their thoughts. Knowing the team is always happy to support me is invaluable."

James: "I see every challenge as an opportunity to learn something new - and I know I have a supportive team who will have my back to help if I need it.”

Work-Life Balance

Let’s talk a little about life outside of work. What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Tim: "Skiing and fly fishing probably top my list. When my wife and I are planning on any sort of family trip, it almost always centers around either of those activities. We’ve got two little boys and I’m thrilled to bring them along as they get older."

Helen: "My love for reality TV is a bit of a running joke with my colleagues, it’s my favorite way to unwind. But I don’t spend all of my time watching TV - I like getting to the gym and swimming, but my weekends are mainly spent with my daughter."

James: "My main hobbies are watching horror movies, playing guitar & dreaming of being a rockstar, and listening to music from every genre you can think of. Since taking up fiction writing during the pandemic, I’ve penned a number of short horror stories and I’m writing several more."

How does Immersive support work-life balance, especially as you all have young families?

Tim: "Immersive is the best company I’ve worked for in terms of work-life balance. A lot of our team have growing families and any parent knows how much that can sometimes be to juggle. Schedules change, things come up unexpectedly, etc. I’m always happy to support my colleagues and they’re happy to do the same for me."

Helen: "With a young child at home, flexible working and being able to work remotely have had an immensely positive impact on my work-life balance."

James: "Remote and flexible working helps me with this. I have the freedom and flexibility to work at my own pace, which enables me to do my best work. For instance, I'll happily work a bit later to get something done so I can be there for my daughter’s nursery pick up."

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Advice for Future Applicants

Someone reading this right now could be the next person you interview - what advice do you have for those interested in joining Immersive?

James: "Be yourself! We hire people, not just skill sets. Highlight your passions and unique achievements. Come as you are."
